First, I'll start off by saying that paraffin wax is known to contain toluene, benzene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and naphthalene--substances found in paint, lacquer and varnish removers. So, we can only imagine what that is doing to the air quality in a home. We all have seen the black soot that forms at the top of a jar candle made of paraffin wax. If that's what is collecting on the jar how much is released into the air we breathe.
Paraffin wax is the final by-product of the petroleum refining process. These are fossil fuels, non-renewable resources. So not only do they pollute our air in our home they also are draining resources that we're already trying to pull away from. I know candles may seem minimal to the larger scale of things but as we all know everything counts.
There is an alternative to paraffin and that's soy wax. Basically soy wax is homogonized soy oil. It contains no known carcinogenic chemicals. It's a healthy, clean, and can even be a hypoallergenic allternative. Soy wax candles are also from a renewable resource. There are over 300,000 farms in The United States that produce soy beans. That's more than half of the world's production of soy.
I will be continuing on the all out benefits of soy wax candles on this blog. There are many advantages to these candles. Not only are they cleaner, they are all out better quality. So, stay tuned and be enlightened.
